Irvine Regional Park with family
March 4, 2007
 
My wife, daughter, and mother-in-law ride past wood ducks, mallards,
and coots on a 3-wheeled paddle bike at Irvine Regional Park.
Native wildflowers in my own yard! March 4, 2007
   Creek Monkeyflower (Mimulus guttatus), Hummingbird Sage (Salvia
spathacea), and Fiddleneck (Amsinckia sp.) are blooming in my yard. Attention
local wildlife, backyard habitat awaits you!
Ibis found in Santiago Park in Santa Ana! (rare sight
for inland area) March 4, 2007
 An Ibis (most likely white-faced species) was
spotted by Katie Dana, Park Naturalist, in Santiago Creek at the Santiago
Park Nature Reserve in Santa Ana. Patrick Mitchell, head Park Naturalist,
said he has never seen an Ibis in the park in the seven years that he has
worked there. Definitely a rare sighting.

   Blue-eyed Grass (Sisyrinchium bellum), Chia Sage (Salvia columbariae),
and Parry's Phacelia (Phacelia parryi).
Lounge lizard and manroot March

  Habitat
continues to flourish in my yard. A large Western Fence Lizard (Sceloporus
occidentalis) lays on a ledge. A new Wild Cucumber (Marah macrocarpus),
also known as Manroot, peeks out from a blackberry thicket.

   Desert
Wild Grape (Vitis girdiana), Calabazilla (Cucurbita foetidissima), and CA
Poppy (Eschscholzia californica) show new growth in my yard.

 Dainty Goldfields (Lasthenia
californica) started blooming around the mailbox.

   Blackberry (Rubus ursinus), Black Sage (Salvia mellifera), and
Whipple's Yucca (Yucca whipplei) in my yard.
